Beinn Dearg and Cona Mheall

We said goodbye to The Byre and Newtonmore this morning and drove north west, pausing to shop at Inverness as we will be some distance from a village/town for the second week of our holiday.

The forecast is for rain and high winds for the next few days so it was a plus to drive over to Ullapool under blue skies.  My blip was taken through the windscreen on the road across.

We managed to find a cuppa and sausage roll in Ullapool before the weather front arrived, sitting on the harbour wall with gulls in attendance waiting for dropped crumbs.  The rain arrived and we withdrew to a local bookshop and stocked up on postcards, local guides and a jigsaw (!) then visited the Highland Stoneware Pottery to treat ourselves to some pieces to add to our collection.

We still had time to kill before we could get in to our cottage seven miles north so took the advice of the very helpful potter in the shop to seek out food at the Ceilidh Place.  Vegetable barley broth and the share of a cake were very welcome before we hurried to the car and drove out in to the wilderness!

Our cosy cottage is out in the wilds, and it's certainly getting wild out there!  I don't think there will be much opportunity to go up high in the coming days, but the area is a geopark so we will wrap up warm and go look at the sights.  There are also several walks from the cottage which will be to explore.
