Dudes

Day 2: The night before our new friends at the hostel played a youtube video of some enormous fires in long dry grass, then told us it was happening in Aso, tomorrow! We cancelled our trip to Takachiho gorge (officially now our most spontaneous holiday ever) and went in a van to see sunrise. Later, one of the hostel staff's friends took us about in a van to see different areas burning. It felt a little like driving through hell, with huge smoke plumes darkening the sky in every direction, and later on an abundance of scorched black ground. There were many motorbikers zooming past the flames...
