Designing and delivering training for financial services firms often means being in the middle of some kind of organisational change. Changes are not always handled well and it is helpful to remember what delegates are experiencing when they come to training.
This flip chart sheet is tacked to my office door.
It acts as a reminder of the stages people experience when somebody or something disturbs the comfort of their situation. Managers need to help people avoid opting out, hitting the recliners and deciding not to join in. If people can be guided through denial and the chaos that follows, there is a chance of returning to a feeling of personal control and reaping the rewards of change.
