Paradise Island
Italy road trip day 4
We got up early in Venice, had a good walk around, as the mist rolled in over the lagoon, but at least dry and warm. It was very quiet, just a few early birds around. We found somewhere nice for breakfast, and then looked for a gondolier. We found a great one near the bridge of Sighs, and what fun it was, such a lovely chap, 67 and going to retire next year! Immense fun, so glad we did this. after this we meandered back to the hotel in time for coffee and pastries at the adjoining bakery, then packed up. We took the No 1 boat from St Marks through the Grand Canal to the Piazza Rome, close to where the car was parked. As soon as we left Venice the mist cleared away, and was hot and sunny, the next stop was Grado, practically an island in the Gulf of Trieste, where you can drive over a long causeway to get there. A fabulous place, huge marina, fishing Harbour, tons of history and many streets for meandering. Unfortunately all the campsites were already closed, but we managed to find an open one on Isolde del Paradiso, fabulous spot in the laguna di Grado, where we chilled in the warm breeze watching the sun go down. Luckily some other campers came past on the paddle boards, giving me a great blip opportunity. We drove back to Grado for dinner, and had a bit more of a walk around. I slept very well on Paradise Island, it was incredibly peaceful.
