Anniversary glass

The engraving round the bottom of the glass reads 'Celebrating the 400th anniversary of the 1608 licence to distil'. The glass is one of a pair given to me as a Christmas present (along with an accompanying bottle of Bushmills whiskey). I'm not a great whiskey drinker, but the glasses are nice, have good heft and weight to them, and are nice in the hand.

What a rotten weather-filled day it was, though! Not miserable enough to tempt me to turn to a hot whiskey for comfort, but cold enough for Derek and Rita to have their stove lit when I went over to visit them tonight. We had our usual great time together, though it was tempered a bit by some bad work-related news Derek got during the week. He and I spent a while upstairs listening to his sound system, which he's now playing from his MacBook through his new DAC and his hand-built valve amplifiers and speakers. He pulled a bit of a fast one on me after supper by switching a couple of chips in the unit's innards and dramatically improving what already sounded pretty wonderful to begin with.
