Dividing the old Bromiliad

This may look a wee bit like a disaster... and it well may be. I pulled the old special Bromieliad plant out of its pot (you can see it at the upper left) and was surprised to see it had been growing root bound in a smaller clay pot. I used a hammer to break that off.  There must be nearly 75 to 100 plants in there. Way too many for me to restart indoors. I will probably grow some on in good new soil in two large pots and the rest will go to the compost.
It blooms with unique purple and gold small flowers.
It must be at least 5 years since I divided this plant. Well, less than 10.  A relative gave a slip of her 8-foot tall bush when I was last in Mississippi where this flourishes outdoors.
It is rather shocking to see it laying splayed out on the deck right now.
Tomorrow I will finish sorting it out.

Those who feel they would like a slip of their own please let me know.
I mailed one to Bootneck years ago and customs did not give us a problem. He does not remember.
