What season is it?

In our house, the season when we leave out the vacuum 24/7 for weeks, is a very unique season.

It’s fly season.

The flies are trying to find a place to make a home and they are everywhere. The front of the house is covered. The windows are covered. And, unfortunately, there are many many on the inside as well, though thankfully not as many as on the outside.

So three or four times a day I crank on the vacuum and I go around to the windows where they like to gather the most. Each time I vacuum up so many. 10 20, 50 even at a time.

When the weather starts to cool off, instead of flying everywhere they prefer to walk. This is the funniest thing to see. Dopey flies too lazy to fly so they walk across the floor. I don’t know where they are going and I doubt they do either, but it’s a funny thing to watch when flies prefer to walk instead of flying.

The season should end fairly soon, as soon as it gets too cold for them to live outside. Then I’ll put the vacuum away for the rest of the season.

But for now, it stays handy.
