Ocean
This part of the camino has a very different feel, as we walk north following the coast and with the Atlantic always on our left.
We left the Sé Cathedral in Porto as the bells chimed 9 o'clock. As it was a Sunday morning, the streets were quiet, but there was a small queue of pilgrims at the Cathedral door waiting to get their credencial stamped. We ate our breakfast and watched them set out on their first day, feeling like old hands (or feet!).
Walking out along the Douro River, we encountered more runners and cyclists than I have ever seen in one place. At the coast they were joined by walkers and surfers. The amount of healthy leisure going on was quite exhausting to watch:-)
We walked 14.5 miles, but quite slowly since our accommodation wasn't open until 4pm, so we sat on the sea wall now and then just to look out at the ocean.
Now we've had another of Sarah's delicious pasta teas and are resting our feet. The sea air has made me quite tired!
