Usher Hall Extension

Its somewhere that I walk past everyday so I've been watching the progress of this extension with interest for some time now (is it me or is it taking FOREVER?!) and I'm still very puzzled as to why they are ruining this gorgeous building, and how they ever got the planning permission in the first place.

In the past couple of years its gradually looked more and more hideous and quite recently all the concrete for the walls have been filled in and strips of metal runners attached all the way along. I'm deeply suspicious that they are now going to clad the whole thing in that nasty yellow fake stone that seems to be on every new building in Edinburgh these days.

I'm very grumpy about it all! I understand that there are places that need expansion, but can't we do it in the spirit of the original building? Does it have to be ugly and out of place?
Grumble grumble....
