DERELICT SUNDAY

You may remember that I said a few days ago that I had a derelict shot worked out and then we went out for a drive - well today, that is not an option because we want to conserve our petrol!

We decided to go into Old Town rather than driving around the countryside looking for dereliction so my derelict blue door now has its 15 minutes of fame on Blip.

We went out early but there was no petrol to be found in either of the two garages we passed on our way, so we are hoping that stocks will soon be replenished - but don’t intend filling our car and a jerry can - apart from the fact that we don’t possess a jerry can, we both feel it is dangerous to have a 5 gallon can of petrol stored in our garage.

On our way into Old Town, we heard the Radio 4 Service and it was so good to hear one of the old Harvest hymns, “Come Ye Thankful People Come” - so although there are shortages of petrol, flu jabs, empty shelves in the supermarkets and the very real possibility of gas prices going through the roof, there is still much to be thankful for.

This door is between an old and derelict building, The Locarno, which I have blipped before and what was HSBC Bank - you can see the new brickwork - but which has stood empty for some years now.  We have no idea what this house used to be - but in latter years, it was obviously a fire exit for the Bank.  It was interesting to see the word “Love” written on the letterbox on the door and the words “Why can’t we just love each other?” on the window.

Many in our town hope that The Locarno site will be redeveloped, which will probably include this old building - but I am doubtful it will be in my lifetime!

“The actual building was old and dilapidated
and remained standing more out of habit
than from any inherent structural integrity”
Douglas Adams : The Salmon of Doubt

P.S.   Many thanks for your kind comments for yesterday’s Blip of the Conkering Teds and their friends - they were all very grateful - my hand is slowly getting better but still becomes very painful when I type.
