Happy birthday sister

Today is our young sister’s birthday. Happy birthday  sister.
 
Just over three years ago we were all together in Amsterdam, and we went to the Rijksmuseum, particularly to see the Night Watch. This photo was taken then, in the Night Watch gallery. I thought our dog loving sister would appreciate a dog detail from the painting. But here the story gets a bit complicated, because when I look carefully at our photos of the Night Watch, there is a dog in the painting, yes, but it’s not this dog.
 
The Night Watch is a group portrait of a company of civic guardsmen. Such group portraits of militia were very popular in Amsterdam around 1642, when Rembrandt painted the Night Watch. There are a number of examples in the Rembrandt gallery. Our very appealing dog appears in one of these group portraits, painted by Bartholomeus van der Helst in 1639.
