Flower Friday. : : Lucky Strike Rose
One of our rose bushes has succumbed but this one continues to produce flowers. There aren't many other flowers left as the garden prepares to go into hibernation. It's strange, because although Autumn has begun, September and October are often our hottest months. The high today was 86F/30 which is quite pleasant as long as we're not in the direct sun, but hardly autumnal. The trees are beginning to change color despite the warm temperatures. I think the color change is based on dwindling hours of daylight even more than temperature.
David stopped by to measure our closet doors and give us a progress report. His plumbing supplier has no idea when the toilets will be shipped as the manufacturer in Europe has to have a certain number of orders before they will ship them but the supplier in Santa Rosa is not privy to those numbers. And once they are shipped, who knows how long it will take? He got the plumbing parts for the bathtub, but no tub.
I feel for people who are trying to rebuild. They've had to wait a year to get all the necessary planning permissions (which seem to be something of a moving target) Once they start I suspect it may be a nightmare of delays given how long it takes to get a toilet or a chair or a set of windows....
The trucks and pickups are starting to roll down Los Alamos at the end of the day and the beginning of another weekend. The cyclists are toiling up the hill on the steep ride to the fabulous view at the top. The ride back down must be a blast although I can't bear to watch them careen around the corners. The sun is slanting across the fields and in through the bedroom door, causing Spike to interrupt his snooze at the bottom of the to and move to a shadier spot. John is watching the Ryder Cup, the dinner, zucchini and turkey meatballs with a tzatziki sauce is made, and Dana is coming for dinner.
Living in the moment, all's right with the world...
