Have Camera Will Travel

Today we decided to do a bit of train spotting. Our first stop, provisions for our picnic and then we head out to Levisham. Impossible to find a parking space at the station as it was full of train spotters, so back up the hill we park on the common where we take the path across the moors towards Skelton tower and a great view down to the railway track. We don’t have long to wait for our first train the 2999 “Lady of Legend “ but disappointed there was no steam. We have  an hour to wait for our next train so it was a good time to sit in the sun and have lunch.

Far in the distance we hear the unmistakable whistle and our second train came into view 80136 a BR Standard 4 Tank.

We leave our spot but not before I take a shot of the tower and carry on over the moors until we again reach the railway line where we spot our next train 825 but it was going backwards and I didn’t get a good shot.

We finally arrive back at the station and it was time for refreshments at the beer tent, still lots of people around. Finishing our beers it was time for our fourth and the best of the day the magnificent 60163 the “Tornado”  ……It is the first newly built steam locomotive in the UK since 1960 at a cost of around 3 million pounds - completed in 2008.

After a great day we head back up the hill and return to the car and head home.

We were very pleased with our day and rounded it off nicely with fish and chips.
