There's Diplolepis rosae About

Diplolepis rosae is the tiny gall wasp that causes the dog-rose to grow in the deformed manner seen here. These mossy galls are known in my family as Robin's Pincushion Gall but they are also known as the Bedeguar Gall, the mossy rose gall, or just moss gall.


They are green in early summer but are most frequently noticed in late summer and autumn when they turn red.
