Slight Risk
The atmosphere has become much more unstable than was anticipated earlier in the day as a weak atmospheric disturbance moves through the area in coordination with ongoing daytime heating. As this disturbance moves northeastward across the area in timing with maximum daytime heating, the risk of severe thunderstorms has increased for the afternoon into the evening. Main risks are for large hail and damaging straightline thunderstorm winds. Several systems may be converging along the Balcones Escarpment, which is the eastern end of the Edwards plateau. This is actually an old fault line, and basically parallels Interstate 35 through Central Texas. The western sky is looking quite dark (darker than this westward facing photo would suggest) and winds are picking up.
