Sans titre
The new painting now in place. I can't explain why I like it so much, I just do. It's part of a series of similar paintings. We briefly considered a frame, but we're happy with the way it looks without. PS click on large, the colours seem to have gone a bit weird here!
Funnily enough we had two missed opportunities to meet the artist this weekend. In Saint Bertrand de Comminges, the Journées du Patrimoine leaflet listed an exhibition in the tourist office that included her along with several other artists. It mentioned that the artists would be present all day for discussions.
So naturally we headed there after our visit to the archaeological museum. There were no visitors and the exhibition was roped off. The lady at the desk unroped it for us and switched the lights on. It turned out to consist of eight unlabelled paintings, two of which we recognised as being by Marie-Hélène Carcanague. No artists in evidence. Very strange.
The ladies at the gallery in Fanjeaux where we bought the painting had said the artists would be there at the end of the exhibition to collect their work, and we'd originally intended to go to pick it up on Sunday, the last day. But when we realised we'd be passing on Saturday, we thought we'd save ourselves an extra trip. So no artists there either. However she is having an open day in her studio in Toulouse next weekend. So maybe I will go and visit -- third time lucky!
In other news, book group yesterday evening. We had a lovely time; it's still a treat to get together in person, and better still K was there -- I haven't seen her face to face for a year. Nice discussion too, about Half Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan. Ironically chosen by J, who has now moved back to the UK. We tried to include him and M via Zoom, but it didn't work very well given that he's hard of hearing, and the connection fell apart after 15 minutes.
