As the Crow Flies from Stone
A fun project this morning as an artist friend of ours (and her husband) came to finish a piece of garden artwork. At the beginning of lockdown she made a similar signpost for her own garden, and being map-obsessed I (Annie) fell in love with the idea. So here we are - a number of places that are important to us and their distances and direction “as the crow flies”. In some places the direction is unintuitive: for example, the shortest path to New Zealand around the globe is in fact North of Cambridge. We had fun with a compass, drill and spirit level making sure everything was pointing the right way.
If you love maps (or birds, sunflowers, nature or riots of colour!) too, do check out her artwork. A particular favourite of mine is the Shipping Forecast done in pictorial form.
A really lovely morning catching up with Jane and Moth.
