We woke to bright sunshine unexpectedly, and in fact although we didn’t realise it when we set off for the day it stayed beautiful and just got warmer all day…wish I’d taken my sunglasses with me!
After exploring the now (nearly) emptied basement store, we had a coffee and pastry on the way down to meet DF at the station and wandered down to the Portrait Gallery to see the Alison Watt exhibition. It was beautiful, (although smaller than I’d expected), and we spent quite a while inspecting each painting and reading about how she’d been interested in exploring the objects in portraits done by Allan Ramsay in the 18th century. The linen and flowers she’d done were so delicate.
We slowly headed down through the other galleries then pootled down the shops on Broughton St before lunch at Da Vinci’s which was very tasty. Chatted about photography, families, ex-colleagues retirement and travel plans.
Bit more browsing along George St then dropped her back at Waverley and we wandered via shoe shops to the cinema on Fountainbridge to watch Our Ladies. I’dread the book (by Alan Warner) and seen the stage show, and we enjoyed the film….so odd to be watching a film about Edinburgh in Edinburgh!
Home in time for a lazy evening watching Strictly. As the evening went on I started to feel unwell….another cold arriving I suspect. Did a quick test before bed to check it isn’t Covid (negative) but ended up having a disturbed night feeling pretty grim….
