Anyone for Steak?
I took a wander through Hartley Wood today, mainly for a walk as I didn't really expect to see anything, but am always hopeful for fungi at this time of year.
I hadn't gone very far when I spotted this very red bracket fungus growing on a tree trunk. From a Google search this seems to be a young beefsteak (or ox tonge) mushroom, so called because it resembles a slab of meat when mature, and even oozes "blood" when cut! Apparently it is edible and considered choice by some ... I don't think I'd chance it.
