Proof positive

We have been watching the progress of the big pipes for months now. They have been trucked around, piled up along the roads, moved to new positions, protected with traffic cones. But for what purpose? I thought we were about to be enlightened when a young traffic controller told me she knew what they were for. “They’re putting them in the ground” she said confidently.
 
Today for the first time I saw evidence that this is the case. One end of this pipe has been put into a hole in the ground. The workers and trucks have disappeared. We await further developments.
