The Grass is Greener.....
...On the Far Side of the Island.
A bit confusing there, eh? This is an island, but is it? It seems to be attached to land by a lot of green grass? ...Well, it is a long story..it WAS an island when my parents bought it in the 1950's and over the years with changing water levels, it has and has not been an island...that marshy area was once covered with water deep enough for small boats to go through, then it was a sand bar, then trees grew, then the water came back up and drowned the trees,..and now it has receded somewhat and is like a little wetland... water goes through, but no boats - at least for now!
So, yes, it is an island..and a tiny one..and it will be a challenge to find a different blip for each day I am here...there is only so much to photograph. I am relying on Mother Nature to provide some variety with her weather, morning and evening light shows, and her animals who choose to drop by.
Today, she provided the right light for the marsh shot and also the return of our local family of mergansers, and, I am happy to report, they were a family of 6 again - which is a relief as on their last visit, they were only 5, with one lone duck seeming to be ostracized from the group. I have included 4 of the 6 as an extra..They were all lounging on the rocks in the sun and out of the wind...but two were out of the frame huddled together further out on the point.
So, it was another beautiful sunny day, perfect for swimming and lounging in the sun with a good book! And then of course, the power went out! But hey, this is a cottage and sometimes you just have to rough it...heh heh..like, no Netflix tonight...?
