Friendship
Today we got invited to the home of a former colleague of mine, John Fowler, ex Arts Editor of The Glasgow Herald (as it was known in those days) and his wife Catherine for lunch. It is over three years since we last met.
But invariably the first half hour, or maybe longer, was taken up by exchanging our medical histories, and the indignities of growing old.
John turned 90 earlier this year and now gardens since he has given up climbing mountains.
Catherine still teaches the piano and sings in a local choir.
All four of us congratulated ourselves as we prepared to leave late in the afternoon after a very entertaining day that despite living through a pandemic at our age we were still very much alive and enjoying life in this strange new world we find ourselves.
