Thar She Blows!

We had a blast on the high seas this afternoon when we went out on a whale watch cruise.  We couldn't have been luckier with the weather -- after yesterday's doom and gloom, today was gloriously sunny. 

Luck stayed with us -- we saw several pods of harbour porpoises, a couple of enormous sun fish, and most excitingly four Fin Whales.  Naturally it was very difficult to get any good shots of the whales -- partly because everybody else was trying to do the same thing (most of my pictures seem to feature various elbows and bottoms of fellow passengers!), partly because often when the whales came up from their long dives for air, they were right in the path of the sun, so they were difficult to discern amidst all the sparkles on the water, and partly due to the less than professional calibre of the photographer! 

Nonetheless, here you can see a pretty good spout in the left hand image, and the silhouette of a fin whale's back and dorsal fin as he/she began a deep dive.
