On the Dava

A stunted Rowan does its best to protect the ruins of a long abandoned building at Wester Limekilns on Dava. This and other crumbling farm buildings is situated behind the neat farmhouse (See extra). This was occupied until the last family left in 1962 and is now gradually being destroyed by the elements.

This morning when there was still heat in the autumn sunshine and the air was fragrant with the scent of the moor and of the kitchen garden mint crushed by my boots, it was too easy to romanticise what must have been a very hard existence for the moorland sheep farmers.
