John Lennon and The Philharmonic?

This pub was originally built to provide a place for wealthy Philharmonic Hall patrons. The Phil's opulence is quite breathtaking. The ornate cast iron gates to the main doors; the amazing carving and craftsmanship in the bar and of course, the renowned men's marble toilets are all quite unique. The Phil was built in 1900 and could truly have claimed to be an original Gin Palace - too good for the likes of you or I.

When Liverpool born former Beatle, John Lennon, was asked what the negative aspects of fame were he replied, "Not being able to have a drink at the Phil."
