When I was younger, I am pretty sure I would have thought that organising a kid's party would be excellent fun. Themes! Invites! Food! Party bags! But when I was younger, I probably wasn't thinking:  Expensive! Needless plastic tat! Too much sugar! Who will be injured? Is this too gendered?

These thoughts have been spinning around my head like minestrone for several weeks, accompanied by lots of work-related stress and anxiety in trying to meet a tight, unplanned deadline, doing something that is out of my comfort zone.

So... Yes, the Bug did have a lovely party. The wonky cake (despite sustaining considerable damage during my habitual, casual man-handling of sponges) was tasty enough. There were no injuries. And I was very pleased when it was over.

Then I had a wee reunion with some people from school, and heard of some pretty terrible events happening, and thought how privileged and foolish I am to be stressing out about cake and parties.
