Byland Abbey
Making the most of our new National Trust membership we started at Mount Grace Priory, lots there to enjoy, then spent a couple of hours in Whitby - walking up to the Abbey. Diverted off our usual route home by the closure of Sutton Bank we stumbled across Byland - somewhere not even on the radar - but a huge site of yet another ancient religious ruin dissolved by Henry VIII.
Lots of lovely butterflies in the award winning gardens at Mount Grace Priory but choosing for derelict Sunday - the remains of what was once a Cistercian Monastery housing 100 monks, and 200 labourers dating back to the twelfth century.
Thanks Marlieske for hosting.
Fabulous tennis last night by both girls in the US Open Final who spoke so well afterwards. Amazing win by Emma Raducanu, I hope she is well looked after
