Sunrise over Sakurajima

Catching up now, after a wonderful week of holiday with the Bear.

Another day up with the lark, the sun rising over the volcano as we caught the ferry from Sakurajima. Finally off to Yakushima! Met a friendly Okinawan on board, who was going to catch a poisonous species of ant on the island.

On arriving, we sought out some sleeping bags and headed off into the mountains. A beautifully sunny evening as we saw our first Yakushima sugi, huge cryptomeria trees, thousands of years old.
