Among the Fritillaries!

It was such a lovely day - sunny and nice, but with some pretty breezes - that we ended up taking not one but TWO short hikes. One, in the morning, in gameland 176, the Scotia Barrens. The second, from mid-afternoon to evening, in another gameland up on Sandy Ridge.

I spotted several fritillaries of various types on the morning hike, and here is a photo of one of them. They love the pink thistle blooms, so I stalk them there. It's getting to be that time of year when things start to turn to gold. There is goldenrod everywhere and the trees are starting to take a yellow tinge. And here is a golden butterfly to help celebrate this golden time!
