An Improved Walk
On a Saturday I've started driving to Weybourne 10 mins away and doing a walk on the cliff and down the road to the local shop to get a newspaper. This morning I worked out how to make it a nice circular walk. Starting (top right) by the shingle beach and walking along the cliff, then down the lane by the farmer's field with the hay bales and the windmill, then along the road and through the churchyard next to the ruin of Weybourne Priory, to the shop (which includes tasty goodies from the Craft Bakery), and down the lane to the car park. The walk itself is probably only 35 mins, but lovely and varied. I also did some gardening today.
This afternoon I started watching the Netflix series Turning Point about the horrific terrorist attacks on 9/11. Even 20 years on, it's still so shocking. I remember being at work in the UK after lunch and seeing the bank share price on our screen saver suddenly plummet. Double clicking it got you the banking sector prices which were also plummeting. Going on the BBC News site, the initial report was of a passenger plane hitting the WTC. Then horrific live pictures came through, another plane hit the other WTC tower and it was clear that America was under attack.....then the Pentagon was hit and the south tower collapsed and even in another country far away it felt really frightening. A horrific death toll of 2,977 that day, mostly of people just going about their daily lives, but what amazes me is that at the Twin Towers c87% of workers are thought to have got out and to safety. And the bravery of the firefighters, paramedics, police officers and Port Authority police officers was incredible, but at a terrible cost of 403 deaths on the day and reports of 1,400 rescue workers who died years later from 'exposure to toxins at Ground Zero'. The UK had most deaths after the US with 67 dead.
I can't wait to watch the US Open final tonight, so excited. Go Emma! (Btw, it's being shown live on Ch4 tonight for those without Prime)
