A Royal Bird

With wings the color of sapphire, no wonder the bluejay symbolizes nobility and truth. They are also loud, even obnoxious at times, announcing every arrival with bravado, clearing every limb and nearby feeder with a multitude of shrieks and squawks. The noise is only amplified when more than one lands in the lilac trees outside of our front door. Perched to be seen as well as heard, urging me outside to scatter peanuts on the ground. Often I comply so they’ve learned it’s worth their time and effort to perform in their unique bluejay way • My favorite moment is when there’s only one, the one who visits after the morning rush, the one who sits quietly on a sunlit branch, uttering a collection of brief happy sounds, almost a cooing. Never wanting. Like this one. It never fails to make me smile :) • Have a wonder-filled day!
