Security

I bought this folding loft ladder to replace the old aluminium ladder that deposited black dust on the carpet. Because of our small hatch the ladder is in four parts. The design is naff, when down and in use the springs are under maximum tension so the ladder tries to lift off the floor. When you put it up the springs are under minimum tension so it is heavy to push up and lock. The folded ladder only just goes though the hatch and as you try to fold it the thing lifts up and hits the ceiling. Finally if the ladder lifts, the lower two sections fold under and you can’t get out of the loft.
Some serious repositioning of the springs and struts was followed by fabrication of these security catches. Now the ladder won’t fold up if the springs lift it because it stays out straight. The gov not totally convinced but feels a bit happier.
