A Bird in the Hand

Is a clean bird indeed!

Holding her toes firmly between my fingers, she has developed the trust, after about 6 years of trying to convince her this is a good idea, to lean forward, balancing herself with her beak on my arm, and enjoy the "rain" like a normal bird would do.

This is a bit of an optical illusion, because she really is right under the water, but I think it looks as if the water is missing her. I do my best...seriously, keeping a camera dry and photographing a bird bath while holding the bird, isn't the easiest thing to do! Especially when her personal goal is to hop up to my shoulder the second I loosen my grip! This, of course, is not on my agenda at all. Wet bird + shoulder = icky.

Well, perhaps because of the camera distraction, she did end up on my shoulder before she made it to her cage to flap around. Icky.

Gracie's wings are not clipped. She's a very timid bird about new surroundings and is very uninterested in the great outdoors. She flies very well in the house, but spends most of her time in her cage, on us or on her perch in the bedroom when the lights go out. She tried to fly from my shoulder to her cage, but with wet wings, she was a bit weighted down and landed on the piano.

Another birdie spa day, come and gone.

If you have any interest in childhood swimming holes, and cheesevats, you may enjoy my last two blips.

Or perhaps you'd find amusement in dualing blippers OR When blippers meet in the grocery store!
Happy Weekend!
