virtual gathering
WFH. First day of the annual Research Software Engineering conference, due to pandemic online. There were some excellent talks. The virtual conference centre based gather town is quite fun and an improvement. However, I find it difficult enough to talk to random people I don't have a connection with IRL. The virtual world doesn't really help with that. At least in the real world there are situations were you might as well chat to somebody. There are too many excuses in the virtual world. It turned out to be a very busy day. I did end up at work briefly to press some buttons. It turned out that even if the device had had any buttons it wouldn't have worked. A replacement network switch sorted the issue temporarily. Our office is in no way ready to be inhabited again. In fact the entire building is a building site. Ah well, something to be said for working from home.
