Winter Larch
When we were on Mull …. oooh ages ago (actually June 3) …. we went to the exhibition at An Tobar, comprising Eve Campbell hangings and fank photographs by Treshnish. And bought one. It finally arrived the other day. I think it was supposed to be sent to us at the end of July, but somehow it didn’t get sent off, and then someone started to assume that we were collecting it in person. That would be lovely. But it isn’t feasible at present.
So today we managed to hang it in the hallway, and I even succeeded in photographing it, although it was a bit awkward because of the coat rack right opposite. It’s called Winter Larch, and is part of Eve’s Wildwood hangings. In the meantime, this has morphed into being my 60th birthday present from L, and although it’s not my birthday yet, we’ve waited so long we didn’t hesitate to get it up on the wall (also, that is by far the safest place for it). We’re pleased with the spot, because although there isn’t a huge amount of natural light in the hall, there’s quite good ceiling lights, and the linen won’t be damaged by direct sunlight as might be the case one a number of other walls. It certainly feels like a ‘statement piece’.
After we had done that, and I’d then done some spinning, I considered going out and decided that it was nicer to sit for a while on the balcony in the sun with a book. On and off for a fair bit of the day it was sunny, and rather warm. In fact, because a slight breeze from earlier has now disappeared and it is completely still outside, it is currently warm enough to sit with the balcony door open, although it’s more or less dark outside. It’s very pleasant. In fact, the day was so pleasant and relaxing that I had a snooze in mid afternoon. And enjoyed the first gin and tonic (as opposed to just gin) I’ve had in ages.
I added an extra of sedum Bertram Anderson, which seems to be adapting quickly to its new environment (in one of hazelh’s balcony railing troughs).
