One hundred years old
Mum that is, not the Queen just yet.
We celebrated with about 100 friends who came to the garden party. There were a few more drop outs at the end: one with a tummy bug, one with an infection and one whose car broke down on the way. We raised a glass to these absent friends and the others who were not able to come.
The sun shone. It was not too hot, but comfortable. Mum was happy on her little dais and the ramp worked perfectly. There was a buzz all afternoon, which stopped only for the entertainment.
I have very few photos. I took this one of Mum in her chair to be sure I had a blip, but at the party, it was just not possible for me to be camerawoman. My good friend Christine G was busy with her camera all afternoon and I can't wait to see the photos. I had said to Mum I would take another portrait in better light, but it never happened.
The buffet was delicious and the cake. The champagne was lovely too. I wish I had managed another glass!
We have currently raised over £1,700 for Mum's chosen charity which is marvellous.
My extra is of lovely Alistair, who was carrying champagne flutes on a tray when one slipped and there was a domino effect. It's not a brilliant photo but I just managed to catch it before they had all tippled over. Amazingly they bounced on the carpet and there were no breakages.
The puppets were very funny. Our friend Liesbeth had written a brilliant poem about Mum and she read it very well. Dark Sky Voices were just amazing. Their set of songs was varied, tuneful and captivating.
The umbrella competition had enough entries to make it worthwhile and there were some amazing creations.
I had help from a lot of friends who also did a lot of clearing up for me.
The mugs are all dried but I have not started to put the champagne flutes through the dishwasher yet. Tomorrow will do.
I think we will sleep well tonight.
