Old Man
A rather sleepless night as the itch of midfield bites had me crazy dreaming, however, surprised my legs felt fine and no trace of tiredness from yesterday’s exploits.
It was a sad goodbye to our lovely B and B host Shiona, who regaled us with her incredible stories from around the world over breakfast. A true force of nature and we’ll definitely come back just to see her.
Today was a wee road tour of Assynt and as we headed further north and looked back we got some incredible views of Suliven and its neighbour Cunisp. You could clearly see the geology at work with ancient glaciers creating the amazing rock forms. First stop was a long walk to the Old Mn of Stoer. Yet another weird and wonderful rock formation, this time a lonely stack in the sea. Nothing would make me want to climb it although a GP, Dr Patey managed to do so in the 60s traversing the sea with two ladders…!?
We chose to have a brief snack instead and chased off by the midges. Headed up to the trig point for yet another breathtaking view of the isles, the hills and sea.
Quick keek at the lighthouse then on the windy road to Clashnessie, the beautiful Drumbeg, Kylesku ( ooops missed lunch) so back down to Lochinver for a treat of yesterday’s yummy Lochinver larder. Took the Achiltibuie road out and discovered it was beautiful, particularly the Summer Isles but rather long.
Ice cream in Ullapool woke us up and headed back home for a carpet picnic and to watch the film Edie, all about an 83 year old climbing Suilven, played by Sheila Hancock.
Mini holiday over too quick
