Ooooh! The claw!
I have been looking forward to this for years! Ever since Valerie was a toddler we have seen the building which contains this claw from a distance whenever we travelled the highway to Kansai Airport. We always told her - and then Arthur - that it was Aladdin's palace. Later, we discovered that the "palace" is an incinerator. Later still, when visiting the sewage museum, we discovered that the incinerator is open to the public and that the architect who designed the exterior of this incinerator is none other than Friedensreich Hundertwasser. No wonder it is so fabulous!
The tour of the incinerator was fascinating. Watching this mighty claw pick up the contents of six dump trucks in one scoop and then drop it into the furnace; awesome. Looking into the furnace with a temperature of 900 degrees celsius: incredible! Then to gaze at the stunning architecture which I have added to my blipfolio here; wonderful.
Yes, it may seem an odd choice for a holiday destination, but, as far as I'm concerned, the Maishima Incineration Plant beats an afternoon at the beach any day of the week.
