Port Seton
What a glorious day, the weather was beautiful. I spent an hour or so working on the front terrace bed. I planted in the 5 heathers I bought last week and at the same time cleared out more roots from the old berberis which used to grow there. I sorted out some of the dead heather strands which come down over the wall from the bed above and pruned back some of the Rosa Rugosa, it has such beautiful hips for flower arrangements! I also pruned another branch of the conifer. We've done a lot of opening out this side of the bed and the red rose which is there certainly looks a lot happier to have extra light.
We went down to Restalrig to drop Ali's car into the garage for its service. She has my polo in the interim. Her car is 15 years old now, it used to be ours, we've had it for 13 of its 15 years and it's doing remarkably well. David, the garage owner revealed today that he has the same car, a Golf Plus, which explains why he's so knowledgeable about it. That knowledge has been very helpful to us over the years.
Job done we headed off to Cockenzie House in Port Seton for lunch, they have a very pleasant roof terrace. We're trying to stay out of doors as much as possible just now. The covid numbers are very high and Ali is due in just a few weeks. As her back up birth partner I really don't want to expose myself to any additional risk, so better just to play safe and keep outdoors as much as possible and away from people.
We picked up some fresh haddock from the harbour fish shop while we were there. Fresh haddock is just so tasty and this is very fresh and locally (in the middle of the North Sea somewhere) caught. The blip is a panorama of the harbour and I can't seem to get into it to select a thumbnail so you have the whole thing!
On our way home we dropped some flowers in to Ali. She's been working from home this term and today was her last day before starting maternity leave. I think she's missed seeing her colleagues, but is glad to be on leave at last. The flowers were to mark her last day.
The haddock for dinner was delicious.
Very high numbers again today and talk of vaccination cards. I don't have any problem with having such a card. It seems to be the norm for many countries.
Keep safe everyone
