Grandview
Friday
In the morning, we went hiking in the Grandview area of the park. We were planning to do the Grandview trail, which connects the Main Overlook with Turkey Spur, a 3.2 miles round trip, and rated as moderate. However, Roger got talking with a lady at the visitor centre, and she suggested taking the Castle Rock trail initially, which meets up with the Grandview after 0.6 miles, but she omitted to say this was rated as strenuous, which would normally be OK for a short distance, but it made me a bit nervous, with my recovering broken fingers! However, it turned out OK, and offered close-up views of towering overhanging fortress-like rock walls on the way out, then the outstanding viewpoints on the Grandview Rim Trail on the return. In the afternoon we went for a gentle walk along Glade Creek. When we got back to the hotel, we went for a swim in the hotel pool, then enjoyed a great dinner at a Japanese Steakhouse
