The Carron Valley reservoir was constructed in the late 1939 by damming the River Carron and is one of the most scenic trout fisheries in central Scotland offering fly fishing for wild trout and trout stocked by Carron Valley Fishery.
At the top end of the loch is the hill, Meikle Bin, from where there are great views over the reservoir and the surrounding countryside, to the west over the Clyde Valley and to the east over the Forth Valley. On the slopes of Meikle Bin there is some wreckage of a Fairey Firefly plane which crashed there in 1950.
