Grey and Wet

A sombre end to
a challenging month - August
slides into autumn

We had rain overnight. It is very welcome. One can hope it assists our fire fighters and calms the wildfires still burning.

I was up very early but with the dark morning I had to wait until 6 to drive away from the house. I arrived by the Rivers Trail on the north shore to find the street lights were still on. It felt very odd to be out with my camera on this grey start of the day.

I parked near the footings to the Halston Bridge and walked north under it and under the railway bridge. I notice bear scat on the pathway which made me wary. I had to dodge puddles as I'm still in my Birkenstocks.

The long view across the North Thompson River shows Mt. Peter wearing a grey wig this morning. Vegetation is dried out. The river is very low. The wild roses are bearing a lot of rosehips, beautiful in colour. I took note of a very battered cottonwood tree that was still very much alive. The woodpeckers love this area along the river. I found small apples turning red. I'm wondering if this could be a crab apple tree that's gone wild.

I was home with my breakfast by 7 AM.

We're expecting showers with a high of only 17 C today. It will feel chilly.

We'll spend some more time on sorting and re-organizing today. The enthusiasm is waning.
