Say Hello To Ruby

In my effort to try and improve my portrait pictures I enlisted Ruby, one of our HR department at work. Ruby is a lovely lady, friendly, helpful and charming.

This was one of two pictures I took. The first was way too upright and uncomfortable so I decided to try a tighter crop. I think it is better. Most of my pictures at work are all a bit quickly done, so its difficult to build a rapport.

Something that I have figured out over my past few attempts is how much of portraiture has nothing to do with a camera, or even light. So much of it is time and building a relationship with your subject. If you can make them feel at ease, bounce off your actions and comments you will get the best start to making a picture.
