Ramblings from Zambia....

camouflage....

in the late evening sun this little skink was very cleverly camouflaged.  I did some work today to prepare for a trip to Southern province at the end of the week!

Struggling to give support to a colleague and good friend who took over my job in Malawi.  He was diagnosed with cancer a month ago and two weeks ago had to travel to Lilongwe from the north of Malawi to get chemotherapy.  He has to travel to Lilongwe tomorrow again for the next dose - he goes by local bus as its what he can afford.  This evening he sent me a message that he is not feeling well at all and is in severe pain.  I struggle with the fact that his employers will not send a vehicle to Lilongwe and if they do they charge exorbitant prices which he could never afford and allowances for the driver too!  People in the west complain about their health care - really, they have no idea.  I feel helpless and frustrated that I cannot do more for him.  I sent him money for accommodation and food in Lilongwe.  Sometimes life is just so unfair!
