Pasty & Pint
A Century - 100 Years
On Tuesday 23 August 1921 the then ‘Penryn Comrades Of The Great War’ met at Penryn Town Hall and voted to convert to the British Legion as it was then. This resulted in tonight’s gathering for a pasty & pint and the presentation of a centenary pennant to fit onto the branch standard.
Now the ‘Royal British Legion’ it’s a pale shadow of its former self. The Five Year Plan unveiled a couple of years ago sees the future of the Legion along the lines of the National Trust model, no clubs or branches but a central office collecting the annual membership fees, this is in part being helped by making the membership open to everyone whilst simultaneously membership numbers are falling.
I enjoyed the evening, a chance to catch up with friends over a beer and be part of the centenary photograph.
