Steam & Diesel
After dropping off some jigsaws to the charity shop this morning and having a mooch around a couple of shops, I went up the station to get a blip. You have proof here that the sun actually came out for about half an hour - it''s a miracle! The steam train was arriving in the station and the diesel was moving some carriages around. This afternoon I walked with G on Kelling Heath, not many people around except at the holiday village itself where G kindly treated me to a Ronaldo's salted caramel ice cream.
Day 529 / Day 40 of Step 4 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only)
England's R rate narrowed this week to 1.0 to 1.1. In the ONS weekly infection survey in private households, 1 in 70 in England have the virus (up), 1 in 140 in Scotland (up), 1 in 120 in Wales (up) and 1 in 40 in NI (up). Another festival (Bloodstock) has resulted in c500 new cases, not good news with hundreds of thousands due to attend festivals this weekend. Good to read a major UK study has put vaccine risks from blood clots into context:
For every 10m people vaccinated with AZ, an extra 107 would be hospitalised or die from thrombocytopenia, nearly 9 times lower than following Covid infection. An extra 66 would be hospitalised or die from blood clots in the veins, nearly 200 times lower than following infection.
For every 10m people vaccinated with Pfizer, 143 extra strokes would be seen, nearly 12 times lower than following infection.
