Bascule Bridge

The daily challenge was "About you: Share something we don't know about you."

I'm a mechanical engineer by my education. 46 years ago I had a project to build 6 bascule bridges over the Saimaa Canal. The bridges were originally designed in Germany. However, the design of the opening machinery was not sufficient, that's why I had to redesign it. As far as I know, these bridges have worked quite well.

The bridges will not be opened in wintertime, so I only could shoot this less dramatic photo not showing the machinery.
