Sgwarnog: In the Field

Crag

A change in my usual landscapes came from a late afternoon excursion along the banks of the Wharfe between Pool-in-Wharfedale and Otley.

This looked a promising little walk from the map, but it required a mile of road walking from Pool Bridge to get to the riverside path, and that road was a lot busier than I was expecting. And then views of the river were scarce as along this stretch it is bounded by trees, bushes and thickets of Himalayan balsam and for the most part the path stuck to the edge of the fields.

But it was a new place to be and in that sense every view to be had was different one. Looking back at one point I noticed this long view of the distinctive outcrop of Almscliffe Crag, which provided a nice contrast with the arable foreground. And something of a reverse view of this one from six years ago.

Once in Otley I made my way to the Old Showground, where Otley Town were hosting my local team Salts in a league fixture. It looked like it was going to be a fairly even affair and then Otley scored three quick goals and Salts didn’t recover from that - 5-1 was the final score.

Earlier, we had a birthday in the house and had a fun time playing with the presents.
