The Consolation

This is my consolation for having my afternoon tea at the Ivy cancelled at the last moment by the closure of the A68 from the Borders.

My step daughter and I had arranged to celebrate what would have been HL’s birthday by scoffing afternoon tea at the Ivy this afternoon.To that end both of us had a ‘nil by mouth’ morning so that we could do justice to the scones and cakes. It was devastating to get a phone call as I was leaving the house to hear that the deviation round the closure would make it too late for my stepdaughter to arrive in time for the reservation.

That leaves me having a small late ( in all senses of the word )birthday celebration on my own with a coffee and a Söderberg Mazarin tart.
