Winchester City Mill
I had another excursion into Winchester city centre today, on my way home, having taken my car to be serviced.
This is a view of the ancient Winchester City Mill . This latest version was built in 1744 and is owned by the National Trust. A rather basic, but cheap and useful, youth hostel used to occupy some of the building until the late 1980's. I think it would have been a very atmospheric place to stay, falling asleep to the sound of the River Itchen rushing beneath the building. Nowadays, since they were reintroduced to the river, otters regularly come this way and have been caught on camera passing under the mill.
